Helping people in the last stages of their lives celebrate every single day.

Our Beginning

Houlding On & Letting Go Inc. was created in memory of Alex Houlding who spent the last year of his life at Breck Homes in Bloomington, Minnesota. As his neurodegeneration progressed, and caring for him at home became impossible, he found a new home at Breck that was a perfect fit for him.

A man of letters, as well as a dedicated athlete, Alex was able to recite poetry and stand on his head - even as his other faculties failed and the world didn’t always make sense to him. Like all the residents of Breck, his life was a complete story, and so much bigger than the disease that ended it.

His second family at Breck treated him with respect, kindness, and a joyful irreverence that brought us immense comfort. They made his final days dignified, peaceful, pain-free, and full of love. Houlding On & Letting Go was created out of gratitude for Jenny Morgan and her wonderful team at Breck.

Our Mission

Our fund provides on-demand financial assistance and support to Breck Home Residential Care Center, LLC, in Bloomington, MN.

We are a 501-C non-profit, founded in 2018. Our EIN is 82-4358806. Your contributions are eligible for tax deduction, and all donations are acknowledged with a receipt for your tax records.

Donations to Breck are used for special purchases, staff recognition, and financial support to long-term residents whose resources are depleted. Among other things, your donation will make sure Jenny and her team have the financial means to make sure all residents can stay as long as they need care. Requests have run the gamut, from things as simple as stylish clothing protectors for residents (hand made with love in Iowa), to special kitchen supplies/equipment, to special bonuses for staff members. A portion of the funds are held in reserve to provide a safety net for unforeseen financial challenges.

If you would prefer to send a donation, make checks payable to: Houlding On & Letting Go Address: 4232 Lyndale Avenue South; Minneapolis, MN 55409.

Get Involved

The Minnesota legislature has proposed licensing changes that jeopardize the future of Breck and other residential homes like it.

We are actively advocating for amendments to these proposed rules, and could use some help from family members and friends of Breck.
